Mike Huben (from the jungles of Ecuador!!) will be presenting at our March 17th meeting. All are welcome to join the ChDC club and hear the presentation.

1:00PM Potluck luncheon (bring a dish to share - hospitality and drinks provided by the club.)
2:00PM: CRAFT SESSION

This is a craft day AT THE BOWALD HOUSE (but it will only happen if the weather is dry and above 55 degrees) ON SUNDAY, APRIL 23RD where we will plan to make a few "old towel" planters, fairy garden houses and DIY mushrooms for some new garden art for the summer. Those who might be interested in doing these little craft projects can let me know and we will see what we can pull together. Each participant will to bring some supplies of their own per the following (for the crafts that you wish to do!):
- MUSHROOMS: a pot and a saucer for each mushroom, either terra cotta or plastic (saucer should be oversized compared to the pot, and can be old and chipped for visual effect)
- PLANTERS: old towels that you should have thrown away a while ago (or new ones if you want to go out and get them) for the planters, and something to hold the shape of the planter so that you can transport it back home. (We have lots of plastic pots of various sizes here if you want to use them for the planter base.)
- WEAR CLOTHES TO PLAY IN!!

The club will provide the materials to make the holding solution for the planters, and paint supplies for the mushrooms.

Lewis Ginter's spring plant sale (both Lewis Ginter and outside vendors) is Friday, May 4th - Saturday, May 5th. Many delightful companion plants are available for purchase, as well as a booth with daylilies for sale by the Richmond Area Daylily Society.

2018 National Convention to be held in Myrtle Beach, SC, from Wednesday, June 6th through Saturday, June 9, 2018.
There will be multiple tour gardens on the agenda for your enjoyment along with several other open gardens for you to get a feel for the beautiful daylilies growing in this part of the country.

RADS (RICHMOND AREA DAYLILY SOCIETY) SPRING SHOW AND SALE.

LOCATION: Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens.

RADS will have their spring daylily show and sale beginning at 9am at Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens. Daylilies will be available to purchase as well as a wonderful viewing of daylilies presented in the show after judging is complete, typically around 10am.



06/30/2018 - ChDC Open Gardens

ChDC Open Gardens 2018:

Both Gardens will open at/around 8am for early morning garden viewing. Light refreshements and cold water will be available. Gardens are best seen in the morning for the darker colored flowers, but can go into the afternoon as long as it's not blisteringly hot. We expect both gardens to be open until 2-3pm, or until the last person leaves the garden.

(NOTE: More area gardens may be added to this list as spring approaches.)

TIME: 12:00PM. Members are encouraged to bring their club plants and plants that they are donating for the auction in for recording requirements between 12:00pm and 12:30pm in order to get everything organized and make sure that all is ready and in proper order for the auction. Pot luck lunch starts at 1PM (bring your favorite dish to share!) The auction will begin around 2pm, give or take a bit of time depending on what we are still trying to get entered into the system.

EVERYONE IS WELCOME, you don't have to be a CLUB MEMBER to participate in this auction (to bid or to donate!!) Even if you are a guest, you can also bring plants to donate for the auction, and you can bid on plants that you want during the auction! We'd love to have you. Come and see what it's like to be in our club!

Lewis Ginter Fall Plant Sale - lots of plants, trees, shrubs available for purchase from 9am-5pm on Friday and Saturday in the parking lot outside Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens. The horticulture center always has a tent sale full of amazing items as well. There are usually fall bulbs, The Iris Society usually has great iris, and RADS usually has a booth with daylilies available for purchase.

Join the Bowald's for a presentation of ACCENT garden plants of a more tropical nature and a tour of the late summer gardens where things typically get really tall and large leafed in the hot late summer. This will be a tour for both sun and shade plants.

10/19-20/2018 - 24th Annual Lilyhemmer Meeting

Friday October 19, 2018 to Saturday October 20, 2018

LILYHEMMER!!

October 19-20 is the Region 3 Fall Meeting (actually 24th Fall Festival) held in Camp Hill, near Harrisburg, PA. It is a fun fall weekend getaway with a full daylily program, including speakers, meals, games, auctions, and hospitality. Finish the season with a bang!

Official events are scheduled noon to noon, October 19-20, 2018. Many attendees arrive early on Friday and enjoy the informal preview activities Friday evening and Saturday morning.

Reward for new attendees:
Typically, in order to encourage new attendees, they are offered a nice daylily plant, minimum value of $35, to each new attendee. And there are lots of other prizes.

Huge prizes:
Lilyhemmer attendees can win lots of prizes during the raffles and games we play.

11/11/2018 - Stu Kendig Speaker Meeting and ChDC Annual Planning Meeting

Stu Kendig will be speaking about his daylily hybridizing program. Stu and Diane Kendig are from York, Pennsylvania, and have been hybridizing daylilies for 20 years and have developed a line of high performing and cold hardy red edged daylilies. Stuart is also interested in white daylilies and is very excited about the appearance of broken color stripes in daylilies. They have a beautiful AHS Display garden

2019 ChDC Planning meeting and Officer Elections - this is where we elect the officer's for the open positions, and plan the events for next year!! Come and join in the fun of making the plans for next year.

Potluck: 1:00pm. Bring your favorite holiday dish to share. A Turkey and beverages will be provided by the club.

Don't forget the Chinese auction; bring a $10-15 gift for EACH family member that wants to participate. This is always lots of fun for folks of all ages!

We will also hope to start planning a service project, giving back to our community - details to come!



2019 - REGION 3 DAYLILY CONVENTION 2019 - Delaware Daylily Society

Monday July 1, 2019 to Wednesday July 10, 2019

The Region 3 summer meeting is scheduled for late June/early July 2019. There will be several fantastic gardens to tour in the Deleware Valley region, and the annual Region 3 meeting over several days.

Anne Zagarella is currently accepting seedlings for the 2019 region 3 Dan Tau Seedling bed. Each hybridizer can sent up to 3 seedlings and up to 3 fans of each seedling, labeled with your name, seedling number and any other information that you wish to include regarding the seedling. Seedlings are to be accepted from May 15-September 15, 2018 for the 2019 Dan Tau Seedling bed. Please contact Anne directly at azagarella66@gmail.com for more information regarding this program.

There will be lots of activities with two banquets, and a boutique and an auction will probably round out this wonderful weekend.
